We witness to faith in Meher Baba, love for Him and consideration for our fellow human beings, when we speak His name, show His visage, and deliver His message as God the Awakener. How helpful and practical when we are prepared for this work by having on hand an assortment of literature and cards about Meher Baba which we can freely give away. Years ago, when books were not so expensive, we could give away paperbacks of Discourses and Listen, Humanity. Today, books are too expensive for casual giving, yet most old pamphlets about Meher Baba still around are not very attractive. High quality, yet inexpensive, literature is needed to reflect the attitude that we care and also that "we care enough to give the very best." In the 1950's already, Warren Healy had dedicated himself to producing quality tracts and pamphlets for Baba-lovers to distribute free of charge. Then, in 1967, Rick Chapman's Meher Baba Information was born in Berkeley and its Baba cards became ubiquitous. In the 1980's, an idea of Hermes about quality tracts took root with Lyn Ott and Avatar Foundation came into being in Myrtle Beach. I served on its Board with several others for some years. Contributions were solicited and subsidized tracts and cards were made available to individuals as well as groups, with a concentration on bulk purchases. Eventually, the focus shifted to doing self-publishing of books. As a result, but with some delay, the decision was made to split the tract function off and make it a part of Gateway Mediaworks. This satisfies my own predilection to support evangelical sharing of the "good news" story about the Avatar. My personal interest is cast in the frame of my Lutheran heritage, which supported my god-life through seminary and years of preaching in the 1960's.
